SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING INFORMATION & GUIDE
PROVIDED BY RESOURCE MANAGEMENT CO., EARTH CITY, MO
314-770-9898; www.rmcrecycle.com

What does the term Single Stream Recycling mean? Single Stream Recycling means recyclable items can be collected in a commingled method. For example, there is no need to keep paper, plastic, and glass separated prior to being processed at the recycling center.

Commingled Containers that are recyclable – paper, aluminum cans, steel bi-metal cans, glass, plastic (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #7 containers).

How do I place recycling in my recycle cart?
Since there is no need to separate recyclable materials, just place into the recycling cart. It is no longer necessary to segregate recyclables in your cart. Add material to your cart as generated. If you live in the city and have a higher volume of items to recycle, call IESI to for additional carts.

IESI’s CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT.: 636-321-2100

RECYCLE PLASTICS:

IESI accepts plastic items that have the following numbers in chasing arrows on bottom of containers. If the number in the chasing arrows is #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #7, and it fits the criteria you may recycle the container.

1) #1 - soda, water, and other beverage bottles that are clear and green
2) #2 - HDPE milk and juice jugs (clear)
3) #2 - HDPE detergent and fabric softener
containers (colored)
4) #3 - PVC narrow neck containers only
(health and beauty aid products, household cleaners)
5) #4 LDPE grocery containers (margarine tubs, frozen dessert cups, six and twelve pack rings)
6) #5 PP grocery containers (yogurt cups, narrow neck syrup and ketchup bottles)
7) #7 plastic narrow neck containers only

Note: Plastic buckets - 5 gallon maximum -
are accepted (includes kitty litter buckets too)

Accepted Containers List:

2) Aseptic packaging & gable top containers (for example: milk and juice cartons)
3) Steel cans and tins including aerosol cans
4) Glass bottles and jars (clear, brown, & green)
5) NO window glass, dinnerware, or ceramics

Container Information:
1) All containers are to be empty and rinsed.
2) No motor oil, insecticide, herbicide or hazardous chemical containers.
3) Return plastic bags to grocery or department store.
4) No plastic film (no plastic sheets, tarps, or wrap)
5) No styrofoam or clear polystyrene

NO Polystyrene expanded foam #6 (Commonly called styrofoam)
Do not put #6 plastic in recycle cart.

Accepted Paper (Fiber) List:

If you can tear the paper and it is not soiled; recycle it!

Newspaper including inserts (remove plastic sleeves), cardboard, brown paper bags, food boxes, cereal and cracker cartons, pizza boxes, receipts, instruction manuals, magazines, catalogs, telephone books, office / computer paper, carbonless forms, brochures, file folders, notebook and school papers (no metal clips, spirals, or ring binders), soda and beer can carrying cases, junk mail with envelopes, paperback books (hard cover books are not recyclable), gift wrapping paper and gift boxes.

What does Recycling/Single Stream Recycling do for me as an individual?

1) It gives you the ability to control future waste cost due to increase of tipping fees for waste being diverted from landfills.
2) Adds increased lifespan to area and regional landfills which reduces cost of transportation to landfills outside local region.
3) Provides marketable goods to recyclable end markets to provide future product from recycled material which reduces costs of packaging to you as a consumer.
4) Provides jobs in the local region providing taxable revenue in which we all benefit. Estimated 16,000 jobs are linked to recycling to some degree in the St. Louis region.
5) Once material is buried in a landfill it provides no future purpose in the economy. A constant recycling climate will renew the economical benefit of marketable product in a continuous cycle.

By recycling all items on the material lists outlined in this brochure, you can remove over half of your generated waste.
