PACIFIC MAYOR AND BOARD OF ALDERMEN
TO MEET TO DISCUSS TAKING THE FIRST STEPS FOR
FEDERAL BUYOUT OF FLOOD-DAMAGED PROPERTIES

Over 180 homes and 30 businesses were damaged due to flood waters last month in Pacific, Mo. Pacific Mayor Herbert C. Adams said the flooding is destined to happen again.

“Floods occur in Pacific on the average of every eight years,“ he said. “We have to do something now to stop the cycle of devastation in our community.”

Mayor Adams is calling for a Special Meeting of the Board of Aldermen to get approval to take the necessary steps to approach federal and state agencies for a ‘buyout’ of property in the flood prone area of his city. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at Pacific City Hall located at 300 Hoven Dr. in Pacific, Mo.

“The purpose of the special meeting, and the only topic on the agenda, is discussion regarding initiating a buyout of the properties that were damaged during the recent flooding,” he said. "The City Administrator and I will be asking the Board of Aldermen for their permission to survey the people who own property in the flooded area. Upon their approval, we will be sending out certified letters to those people who were victims of the flood.”

The buyout program is sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and administered by the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
