United States Census 2010 – www.2010census.gov Posted 7/28/09The U.S. Census will take place in 2010 – The Chamber of
Commerce has joined forces with the U.S Census to get the word out to EVERYONE how important this count is to all of us. The census is a count of everyone living in the U.S. every 10 years •The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution •The next census is in 2010 •Your participation in the census is required by law •It takes less than 10 minutes to complete •Federal law protects the personal information you share during the census •Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year. The United States Census is its own entity and has nothing to do with other Federal Government agencies. The census DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE against the elderly or any ethnic group. Why a census and a need to be counted? State representation is based on the census count. The number of people living in our state decides how many State Representatives our state is allowed. Due to a lack of census participation by individuals in the past, it has created a false representation of the number of people who live in the state of Missouri. This affects not only state representation but also stimulus dollars that may be awarded to our state. The lower the number of people who participate, the lower number of state reps assigned to our state and the lower the amount of federal funds allowed to our state. The Census Count affects: Federal Grant Funding Agriculture Department Education Department Health and Human Services Housing and Urban Development Department Justice Department Labor Department A Census affects buy-out programs and money allotted for disasters, something the town of Pacific experienced a few years ago. We’re on a crusade to make sure the word gets out to everyone how important it is to participate in the U.S. Census in 2010. Please pass the word and help educate others on the importance of this count. www.2010census.gov | ||
